HOW DOES A TRIATHLON RELAY WORK
Relay triathlon is a GREAT way to experience a triathlon if you aren't ready to run the whole thing, if you aren't capable in competing in a specific leg, or if you just want an opportunity to share something truly unique with friends or family. A triathlon relay can be done with 2 or 3 people. Each person does 2 or 3 legs of the race. Your timing chip will have a velcro strap on it and is handed off from one athlete to the next at your spot in transition. All athletes receive full swag and finisher medals. Relay teams are eligible as a relay for top 3 placing.
WHAT IS THE EVENT TIMELINE AND RACE DETAILS?
All times subject to change.
Race morning will be GREAT!! But because we are using a highway, we need to very tightly control our timeline. Come back to this point later as we continuously update. Final wave schedule will post Wednesday, August 25th and an email will follow shortly. Be advised, all times are subject to change:
September 4th 10:00 am to 5:00 pm: Packet pick-up at Ram's Park in Earth City, MO ( 1 Rams Way, Earth City, MO 63045)
September 4th 12:00 pm to Sundown: Night before bike drop off is open. All-night security will be there guarding your bike.
September 5th, 2021 4:30 am: Transition is open
6:30 am: All athletes will be asked to exit transition
6:40 am: Para athlete wave begins their swim
6:45 am: First age group wave, following waves on 3 minute intervals (15 minute delay from Olympic to Sprint waves)
7:24 am: Final Sprint wave of athletes begin their swim.
10:15 am: All athletes must be off the bike course at this time. IF you are the last Olympic athlete out of the water (using 2019 times) so long as you can ride an average of 13.24 mph you will be good!
10:45 am: Age group and overall awards ceremony

In your swag bag will be 7 specific items to be specially aware of:
There will be a tyvek wrist band. These need to be worn in order to access transition on both Saturday and Sunday. If you misplace this band you will need to secure a new one prior to entering transition.
There will be an ankle chip. Please put this on race morning. It goes on your LEFT ankle and is how you will be timed.
There will be two bib tattoos. One set goes on each arm. They are applied exactly the same as the ones from when we were kids.
There will be an age tattoo OR the letter "R" for Relay teams. This goes on the back of your right calf.
There will be a bib number. You only need to wear this on the run.
There will be a bike number. This just has to be on your bike, the seat tube is typically the best place for it.
There will be a helmet number. This should go on the front of your helmet.
Bike Dropoff:
After you pick up your packet go ahead and put on your wrist band and swing over to the park site to drop off your bike. Bike dropoff is NOT mandatory, but highly recommended. You will have the opportunity to set up your transition and if you forgot anything you will have time to recover for race morning. The address of the park for your GPS is:
13725 Marine Ave, Maryland Heights, MO 63043
Where and How to Rack Your Bike:
The MSE Racing bike corrals or one of a kind. No other bike corral provides so much space for so many different kinds of bikes without pinching your tire in the process.
Each corral will have a flag on it of a specific color. All you need to do is find a rack with a flag that matches your cap color and you can rack anywhere on that corral. For example - red swim cap? Rack anywhere with a red flag.
Finally, every athlete has nearly 2' of space to plan their transition. What we ask all athletes to do is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE place your transition to YOUR left as you are facing YOUR bike. It doesn't matter which way your bike is facing: as you are facing your bike, your items go to your left.
Road Closures:
It is VITAL that you be parked BEFORE 7:00 am, so please plan your arrival accordingly. Please note: there are 2 ways to access Creve Coeur Park: One way is via Hwy. 141 and the second is by taking Dorsett Rd. to Marine Rd. Many people take Hwy. 141, I would strongly suggest considering Dorsett Rd. as an option.
Parking:
There is a variety of parking around Creve Coeur Park. The closest and most advantageous parking is the grass field directly to the west of the Tremayne Shelter (see address above). This parking will be inaccessible after 7:00 am as Marine Rd. will be closing, so any spectators that wish to park here must be on site before Marine road closes at 7am.
Because we are using the highway for our bike course, we cannot delay the start of the race. To this end, we cannot stress enough the importance of arriving early.

WHAT DOES "USAT-SANCTIONED" MEAN? WHY DO I PAY TO BECOME A 1-DAY MEMBER?
USAT, or USA Triathlon, is the national governing body of the sport of Triathlon. Sanctioning an event through USAT means the race is provided insurance for its athletes, race coordinators, and volunteers. As a sanctioned triathlon, all athletes are required to either be an annual USAT member or purchase a one-day membership pass. If you are currently a USAT member please make sure to bring your proof of membership when you pick up your packet. If you do not bring this proof, you will be charged for the one-day membership fee. If you are not an annual member, you will need to purchase a one-day membership (to insure you as a triathlete) before you are able to pick up your packet. One-day membership will be collected when you register online.

Yes. Everyone who crosses the finish line will receive an amazing Lou Fusz Subaru St. Louis Triathlon 2021 finisher medal. You earned it!! 1-2-3 winners in each category will also receive awards.
WHAT IS THE INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY?
There is NO rain date, We Go Rain or Shine. In case of inclement weather, management reserves the right to cancel/alter/modify the race/course for safety concerns. In any case there will be No Refunds of race entry fees. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid. There is no complementary race entry to a future race. All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all. Any decision we make to go forth with the race is based on the overall event safety.
IS THE LAKE CLEAN FOR SWIMMING?
The short answer is a definitive "YES!!" As St. Louis natives ourselves, we did some research to find that answer. The toxic chemical you may have heard of is called chlordane, banned in the US in 1988, and the water was cleared of this risk nearly 15 years ago by the Missouri DNR, the Dep't of Conservation, and the STL County parks staff. This report, which clears the water for human consumption in relation to this chemical, is online and public information for all to see. Also, after the Page Extension was completed, the entire lake was completely dredged (also public data) making this lake a very nice venue for our swim!!
Independently, regular bacterial checks are performed by the State Public Health Laboratory in Jeff City ensuring compliance for a fun and safe swim.
