Athletic Inspiration comes from many different places. Some people find inspiration in stories about overcoming odds, some people find it in receiving respect from their peers, and even still there's inspiration to be had watching champions be champions. All of these are good, anything that drives you forward in a positive way is a good thing, and I thought I would share what (or in my case who) inspires me.
To do that, though, I want to start by saying what that inspiration provides me. When I think of the things my it brings me, I find myself thankful because it’s the fuel that wakes me up every morning and reminds me that I serve a purpose. My inspiration helps me, when feeling low, to remember that the greatest joy is found in bringing joy to others. It energizes me when I’m tired, it focuses my thoughts on the tremendous blessing I have to be able to run, bike, or swim to clear my head and go just a bit more than last time. Inspiration brings this and things like it to all of us. The thing that makes it powerful is when you recognize when someone or something serves this purpose and you consciously use it to as a tool to continue moving forward.
There are times when I lose track of this motivation. I’d imagine this happens to most people. Days get busy and evenings make you tired. An unending combination of work, family, and friends can get in the way and serve as a distraction. But when you have the opportunity to latch back on to the piece that drives you, there is a refreshing wash of new strength to be had.
With all that said, the things that inspire me are a little less conventional than most:
This point is simply this. You never know who you are going to inspire and if you look around closely enough you never know where someone may appear to inspire you in return. There is strength all around us wrapped in a variety of forms and people. Athletes face their unique challenges and obstacles in all sorts of ways. Their successes and challenges can make your journey all the more rewarding. I encourage you to look around and find the things that inspire you and use them to inspire those around you.
